Abstract
Our dependence on technology necessitates robust cybersecurity measures to counter the growing threat landscape. This thesis explores the vulnerabilities associated with constant internet connectivity and the potential consequences of cyberattacks for individuals and organizations, particularly educational institutions that manage sensitive data. This study investigates the effectiveness of pfSense, a firewall solution, in enhancing network security within an educational setting. Evaluation forms were employed to assess the overall impact of the implemented firewall cybersecurity. The implementation of pfSense demonstrably improved network security. The firewall effectively blocked malicious traffic and thwarted hacking attempts, mitigating the risks of malware infections and unauthorized access. This demonstrates the userfriendliness, performance, and overall functionality of pfSense. This thesis underscores the critical role of cybersecurity in education and demonstrates the effectiveness of pfSense in mitigating cyber threats. The thesis identifies areas for further exploration, including the potential benefits of additional security layers, bandwidth optimization, and disaster recovery plan integration. This work contributes to the ongoing dialogue on safeguarding digital resources and fostering a secure online learning environment.
